Planning for Greatness:
Greatness
is what we were all created and fashioned to be on earth; the only difference
may just be the level of one’s greatness. Like I illustrated in “Unleashing
purpose for greatness” no matter how much effort the BMW exuberates to be like
a chair, it will only be wasting its precious engine and vice versa a chair.
Considering
the fact that we explored purpose as a quintessential tool in unleashing
greatness, it is but just the first and prerequisite.
Planning
is the next principle in unleashing greatness as soon as your discover that
specific purpose you were created for. This is why there is an axiom amongst
achievers that “he who fails to plan will
eventually plan to fail”. Nowhere has this been realistic like in the quest
for greatness.
What Is Planning?
As
it is a usual custom on this platform I do not bore you with definitions and
grammatical strata as “a picture speaks
more than a thousand words.”
Planning
is what a car owner does before walking into an auto dealership to buy a car,
or a couple goes to a furniture shop to buy chairs.
The
guy who walks into that auto dealership to buy just any type of car definitely
should expect any kind of problem afterwards, also that couple just picks any
type of chairs should welcome unexpected problems.
Planning
is deciding the type of car you want to buy, choosing your best car maintenance
plan, the usage and how long you would want it to serve you. This requires
exploring the specific car brand, its history, enquiry from others who have
used same or similar brand and consider how suitable your budget is for such a
choice. You must be able to know the fuel consumption, parts replacement cost,
maintenance cost, warranty and its performance.
Planning
is when the couple decides on a specific chair set that fits their room size,
color and maintenance (you do not want to
buy white chairs in your sitting room when you have toddlers who would just
jump on them to turn black). Both individuals must agree on a chair set
that meets the above mentioned suitability.
Planning As a Principle for
Greatness:
“We are called to be architects of
the future not its victim”
Buckminster Fuller
You
will only be a victim of abuse of purpose when you do not plan properly even as
important as the discovery of purpose is without adequate planning will only be
wasted effort. It is more important to plan in unleashing purpose for greatness
than just chasing purpose to be great.
Planning
is the skeleton of every creature; it is what holds all the parts and keeps
them from falling off.
You
have discovered what you were created and fashioned for, then you must begin to
explore how best to go about it; if you discovered God wants you to be the
world’s best surgeon then you must start on the road of being the best medical
student there is. This involves loving mathematics, chemistry and biology, and
deciding to go the extra mile in studying.
How
about God wanting you to be a preacher of the gospel, you should not start by
just veering off to starting a church or looking for pulpits where you can
shine. Instead search out for a training school (I advise a seminary) or serve
under a church where your character can be built and discipline instilled. You
must decide the best ministry that suits your pattern of ministry, which
department would you serve and how long would you serve at such a place. No
matter how long this takes put in the effort.
God
never made you a robot but an architect of your purpose, and it is planning
that creates the image of the structure you want to build.
If
we I ask you to show the world the architecture of your life how would it look;
a hut, bungalow, duplex or skyscraper.
Paraphrasing
Brian Tracy in his book Advance Selling Strategy; “planning is the accelerator that enables
you to dramatically increase your speed of accomplishment in every area of your
life”. Also one of the greatest successful persons I know, Jack Welch, CEO
General Electric, has said, “control your destiny or someone else will”.
So
if you are already taking a shot at greatness without adequately planning
first, it is not late to stop, reverse and reevaluate; where am I going, what
am I going there for, how can I get
there, who is going that way too, what do I need to get there and what is my
end when I get there?
Thank
for taking this second step and I am so proud of you.
See
you on the road of greatness.
Bye!
